How to Buy Cheap Tickets

It seems that no matter what we do these days, we need to purchase tickets. We need tickets for airlines, busses and trains. We need tickets for movie theaters, operas, and plays. We need tickets for concerts of all sorts. Tickets here, tickets there – tickets everywhere! As consumers, we are constantly looking for ways to save money, so we look for ways to buy cheap tickets for the events that we want to attend, or for the trips we want to take.

Let’s start with travel tickets. Airline tickets are very high priced, but the savvy shopper can buy cheap tickets if he or she knows how. Start by booking your trip well in advance. The closer the date for your departure gets, the more expensive the tickets will be. Then, look on discount websites, such as Priceline at http://www.priceline.com to find the cheapest airline tickets for the trip that you want to take. You should check Side Step as well at http://www.sidestep.com . Train tickets and bus tickets are normally pre-set amounts that do not change, so you won’t have much luck trying to buy cheap tickets for these forms of transportation.

If you want to buy cheap movie tickets, this isn’t difficult at all. Simply call the theater where the movie is playing, and ask them what time their Matinee show is. The afternoon shows are usually much cheaper – sometimes they are even half price. Also, if you are eligible for any discounts, make sure that you use them. Discounts can save you a bundle! Theater tickets, Opera tickets, and concert tickets can usually only be purchased at cheaper prices from individuals.

It is important to know the difference between buying tickets from an individual, and buying tickets from a scalper. It is illegal to buy tickets from a scalper, and they usually aren’t cheaper tickets anyway. Scalpers buy tickets in bulk, when they first go on sale. Then, when the show is sold out, they stand outside the place where the event is being held, and sell tickets to people at very high prices. People are willing to pay these prices because they want to see the sold out show. But this is illegal – for both the scalper and the person buying the tickets.

Individuals who are selling tickets will not be standing outside of the event. They will not be charging more than they paid for the tickets either. They usually sell tickets because a conflicting engagement comes up, or something happens that will prevent them from attending. They want to sell the tickets to recoup some of the money that they spent on them. They will often sell the tickets at a price that is less than what they paid, just to get some of their money back. If you want to buy cheap tickets, make sure that you are making the purchase from an individual – not a scalper!

EBay is a great place to look for individuals who are selling tickets to specific events. You will need an eBay account to bid on the tickets, but signing up with eBay is quite simple, and only takes a few minutes. You should also look for ticket outlet websites, where you might also be able to buy cheap tickets for various events.
