Where to Buy Cheap Books

If you love to read books - or if you just like to collect books - you are probably constantly on the lookout for places to buy cheap books. There are a wide variety of places to buy cheap books or ways to save money on books – depending on what type of books you are looking for. Books come in two basic varieties – New and Used.

Used books are almost always cheaper than new books, unless you are looking for books that are rare or out of print. In these two cases, you can expect to pay considerably more for the books that you want, but you may still be able to buy cheap books of this type.

Garage sales and estate sales are great places to look for all types of books – including paperbacks, hard backs, rare books, and out of print books. You can often even find complete sets of books at these types of sales. Often, people don’t realize that value of what they are selling at these sales, and you can pick up the books you want for next to nothing! It is important not to make any loud exclamations over your finds – until you have left the premises with your purchase made – otherwise, you will find the person selling the item wanting more than the dime that the book was originally selling for!

Used bookstores are usually fairly cheap if you just want used paperback books or books that are used – but are not out of print or rare. If you are looking for out of print books or rare books, you will most likely pay quite a bit for these types of books at a used bookstore. You would do better to accidentally find used and out of print books at garage sales and estate sales, but failing that, you should consider using eBay to locate specific books.

Another source for used books is your public library. Libraries often sell books when they have multiple copies, or when they get newer copies in. They sell these books to raise money for the library. You probably won’t find rare books at these sales, but you can often find out of print books.

If you are only interested in purchasing reading material, such as paperback books at cheap prices, you shouldn’t have any problem at all locating these books. Used bookstores often allow you to trade books. You give them two of yours for one of theirs – without exchanging any money.

Paperbacks usually sell for less than a dollar at used bookstores such as these, and almost every garage sale will have used paperbacks for about ten cents each. Talk to the person holding the sale, and see if they will take less per book if you agree to buy their whole collection. This is a great way to get the books cheaper!

One eBay secret that many people don’t think about is that when you can find a seller who is new to eBay, you will typically get a better deal. First, they won’t really know how to publicize their auction very well, which means that there will be fewer people bidding on the item. Second, they often don’t know the value of what they have. If you are in the market to buy cheap books regularly, you need to make trolling eBay a daily habit!
